Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotional - Monday, August 31, 2009

Praise the Lord and Good Evening,

I sat in a meeting and listened to an individual discuss a problem at work with a supervisor.  The person wanted an answer to a question.  The person they were asking said that an answer couldn't be provided because the answer wasn't known and they must wait.  That answer didn't sit well and the person continued to make the case for why the answer was needed.  But there wasn't another answer.....they were told to wait.  It was interesting to listen to the exchange....the person stated their position several times but the answer didn't change.  The person asking the question was frustrated by the lack of information provided, but it didn't change a thing.....

Waiting was the answer although it wasn't the "answer" the person wanted to hear.  How often does the Lord provide us with answers that we really don't want to accept?  Have you ever thought "certainly, there's another word."  The Lord knows there are times when we want Him to agree with our answer....

The scriptures are filled with examples of people who felt they had a better answer than the one God provided.....Peter didn't understand the statement Jesus made about him denying him three times.  Peter flatly rebuked the very concept.....like Jesus misunderstood.  That's how we do the Lord sometimes....even though we don't always say it, we render another answer because....because, well, because we feel we know better....isn't that what stirred Peter to say, "No, Lord, you have that one wrong...." The Lord didn't argue,....time took care of the words Jesus spoke....Peter found out Jesus was right.....We know when the Lord gives us answers, they are right, even though there are times when we don't want to accept them.....God allows time to remind us He is right...

31) Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.  32) But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33) Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.  34)  Jesus said unto him, Verily, I say unot thee, that this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35) Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee, Likewise also said all the disciples. 75) And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.  And he went out, and wept bitterly. (Matt 26:31-35, 75 KJV)

Matt 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
