You Can Grow!! 9/28/09
Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotional - Monday, September 28, 2009

Praise the Lord and Good Evening,

I have a plant at work that I've been nursing for about a year.  Actually, it was on it's way to the trash after a co-worker had it and nearly killed it.  I decided to try and save it.  It's name is Mathilda (don't ask me why we named it that)....anyway, Mathilda has been struggling.....the plant is of the ivy family, but there wasn't much to it.  A leaf here and there.....it was a pitiful sight, worthy of being tossed.  But I knew it had a chance.  So for the past year I've been nursing it along......a few weeks ago, I thought it really needed a change.  So I repotted the plant and since that time Mathilda has been growing like crazy!!

The plant no longer looks like it's on it's last leg.....no need to trash it now.  It is growing beautifully.  Every time I look at it now, the words come to mind, "You can grow."

I thank the Lord for this little illustration.  No matter what is going on, you can grow.  The enemy would love for you and I to believe that there's no sense in even trying to grow due to the problems we're experiencing.  The Lord knows under what circumstances to place us to cause us to grow.  David's faith grew while tending sheep (remember the lion and bear experiences he had...that's where his faith in God grew).....it was acted up with Goliath.  He had full confidence in God by the time he reached the battlefield.  Maybe what you're experiencing is causing you to wonder what is going on.....He knows where we need to be planted to spread out.....the original pot I had Mathilda in was cute but it was time for a larger place.  At first glance, the new pot seemed to engulf the already pitiful plant.  It actually emphasized the plant's poor state....but that was short-lived.  Very quickly, the plant started showing signs of growth.  It's beautiful to watch the ongoing transformation.

I can't help but think about you and I.....the Lord is working on us and we really can grow....God knows where you need to be in order to grow.  Yes, you can grow and yes, you will grow.  With the Lord's help, you will grow!

12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. (Psalm 92:12-13 KJV)

Matt 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
