Praise the Lord and Good Evening,
Last weekend we were in Dayton,Ohio. On recent trips to our old stomping grounds, we experienced some highway detours. My husband spent most of his childhood and young adult life in the city.....I, on the other hand, only lived there for two years (I learned the city fairly well). However, with the detours it threw both of us off....we couldn't figure out how to get from point A to point B. The shortcuts my husband tried to take didn't work either as those streets were part of the construction as well. So, I prepared mentally for the maze. We intentionally went the long way around because we didn't know what was open/close. It wasn't until Saturday afternoon that we found out the very roadway we were avoiding was indeed available for travel. Thank you Jesus!!
When I think about it now, we spent extra time riding around Dayton trying to avoid something that didn't exist. We didn't want to chance it, so we opted for the long way. We made it difficult, longer and time consuming....All we had to do was asked any of our relatives/friends that lived there about the roadway. But we didn't...and we ended up spending unnecessary time traveling a road that we could have avoided.
How many times do we miss the right route by working with what we experienced before? Do you come to situations with fresh eyes? Or do you do what we did, presume that the situation is the same, even though the time (season) is different. We meant well and to be honest, the last time we went, we did go down the road thinking it was open. We found out it wasn't, so we had to go the long way. So this time, instead of taking the situation as a new one, we assessed that it probably is the same thing, so we went with a detour that wasn't necessary.....we were trying to do the right thing....but it turned out to be unnecessary......there's a stanza of a song that comes to mind right now, "Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pains we bear"......we prayed for traveling mercies, we prayed for good weather while driving and we prayed for other drivers as well.....send a driving angel and allow no hurt, harm or danger to come.....and God honored those prayers, but when we arrived in the city we shouldn't have subjected what happened last time to our present situation.
Jesus can work through anything....but sometimes He wants us to see Him through fresh eyes! Otherwise, we box Him in.....oh, Jesus won't answer that way, because last time He answered like this.....no, He answers anyway He chooses. Daily routines. We all have them.....except for the Lord. There is nothing routine about Him.....
39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. 40) Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if though wouldest believe, though shouldest see the glory of God? (John 11:39-40 KJV)

Matt 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
