Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotional - October 21, 2009
Praise the Lord and Good Evening,
I was reading about Moses and in his experiences with God, he came to a place where he wanted to see God's glory. Now this was interesting to me because Moses' first experience with God was at the burning bush. When God told Moses to take off his shoes because the ground was Holy, Moses hid his face. Remember when God told him to throw his rod down and it became a snake? The scripture details that Moses ran! But fast-forward to the season when God has freed the Israelites from Egypt and they are now in the wilderness....Moses asks God to show him His glory.....talk about changes along the way! He'd had many experiences since that first time with the burning bush and rod. Moses wanted to see more of God than he'd ever seen before....and God allowed Moses to experience seeing His back......
That is how our walk with the Lord is to be....progressive! We are to be growing in Him.....Moses started out running away...even in the calling...don't send me, you don't mean me....certainly you don't about my speech impediment (like God didn't know that)....that He didn't know you have a temper....procrastinate....grow weary of people easily and have a short fuse when it comes to tedius, repetitive work.....He knows what He's doing when He selects you for His work.....He's not concerned about the doubters....He knows how you may feel limited......but look at Moses.....such a dramatic series of changes in his desires.....he wanted to see more.....God knew who Moses was all along...but He wanted Moses to know Him....and He showed Moses something so powerful that the Israelites were afraid of him....he had to cover his face, he was shining so brightly! And this is the part I love....when Moses was with the people he put a vail on, but when he back to talk with God, he took that vail off....he was in the presence of God and he didn't have to hide a thing! (another devotion coming).....
But you get the point.....to be so desirous of the Lord that you go from running away from Him to asking Him to show you more...and He grants it.....Lord, help us to desire more and more of You.
18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. 19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy. 20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. 21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: 22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: 23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. (Exodus 33:18-23 KJV)

Matt 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
