Praise the Lord and Good Evening,
Moses, when he came down from Mount Sinai after spending 40 days with God getting the commandments, had such an experience with the Lord that his face was shining. So much so that the Israelites were afraid of him....he wore a veil in order to speak to the Israelites...but when he went back to commune with God again, he took the veil off.
Some years ago this scripture text stirred my heart.....I was going through a severe test and I was beside myself. I didn't know what to do and talking to people just didn't help. They weren't afraid of me but didn't seem to understand where I was coming from....it was then that the Lord led me to this scripture passage and it soothed my heart. There are times when all the explanations in the world don't draw the listeners any closer to you...in fact, it seems as if their ears grow weary of listening and/or attempting to understand. So, I put on a veil....you know the veil...it's worn this way..."How are you?" "Fine....God is good." And HE is good under all circumstances...but the truth be told, you just can't go around telling everyone the definition of your "Fine"....I couldn't express how I truly felt.....but when I went into prayer....I took off my mental veil and allowed the Lord to see "me."
I know Jesus knows how I'm feeling, why I'm feeling, who I'm feeling, when I'm feeling, where I'm feeling, what I'm feeling and the connectivity of all of these pieces. God wasn't put off by Moses face....He was the One that caused it to shine in the first place....the freedom Moses had in knowing that he could go in free from a veil and that it was all right...this touched me then and even moreso now....
Now in Moses case, he wasn't concerned for himself....the people were too afraid to look at him. They couldn't get past the visual....Moses had received the WORD from God and was delivering it to them, but they were too caught up in what they saw....they didn't want to even listen to Moses without him having a veil. And sad to say that is how some see problems....cover it up.....but I am so thankful that Jesus encourages us to take the mental veil off....you don't have to spruce things up....come up with a good hook, line or joke as an opening to tell Him what is happening....you don't have to engage in small talk, beating around the bush....only to walk away still weighted down.....we can come with all that bothers us....causes us angst.....renders frowns and uncertanties...it doesn't matter...God knows it all and welcomes you to sit down and tell Him all that is on your heart....without a veil.
And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him. 30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come nigh him. 31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with them. 32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and he gave them in commandment all that the LORD had spoken with him in mount Sinai. 33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail on his face. 34 But when Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, and spake unto the children of Israel that which he was commanded. (Exodus 34:29-34 KJV)
