Praise the Lord and Good Evening,
It has been some time since my last entry. We are in the deep throws of a major work deadline that is taking much of my time (thank God it won't be this way forever) but the next few months will require more of my time. My desire is to provide a devotional on a daily basis but I haven't been able to do so given my hectic schedule.
I went to work yesterday after church (we're working to meet a Wednesday deadline)....as I walked through the office, there were so many people there that it felt like a weekday. A co-worker told me today, he didn't leave the office until 3 am....it was 11 am when he was coming in and he said, "I'm so tired."
I thought about Jesus and his discussion with Simon Peter as he was wrapping up working all-night trying to catch some fish. They'd been out there working all night long. They were tired and ready to call it quits. They were done. It seemed like a waste of time....they were empty-handed. But Jesus told them to let the nets down again......Simon Peter told him they hadn't been successful all night. I can imagine how tired everyone was.......and to add insult to injury, they didn't have anything to show for their efforts. That was until Jesus told them to go at it again. Simon Peter let Jesus know up until now it had been an effort in futility, but since Jesus said do it, he would do it again.......and this is what is different from God and mankind......Jesus told him, "let down your nets for a draught"....it wasn't in vain!!
Jesus told them to do the same thing they'd been doing all night....but He said it and that's what made the difference. I don't know what you're facing....and maybe you've been doing the same thing over and over and over, without getting any results....but see when Jesus tells you to do the same thing again...He has spoken where the lack is and provision is now there (at His word). See that takes some faith in what Jesus told you. So what if you've been working all night? See, we want to feel sorry for ourselves and use that as justification for not doing it again. Yes, it took some work to launch out....yes, it took some work to throw the nets back over the boat.....and it took some work to draw those nets, bursting with fish, back into the boats ....but I'm sure they were rejuvenated by that time.
The Lord knows how long you've been toiling at this thing. He knows you've pulled an all-nighter and have nothing to show for it other than being tired.....but when He says "do it again for a draught" will we will take our tired, weary selves and work at i again, this time at His word? I love that He didn't just say throw your net back into the water....He said, "let down your nets for a draught." Not to throw it out there just to be tossing the net into the water.....and yet that sounds crazy because isn't that what they were out there for in the first place? But time had worn away their hope of catching anything....they'd tried it all night. But again, when Jesus spoke the fish into position of Simon Peter's net!! Have you been pulling some spiritual all-nighters and caught nothing.....what will you do when Jesus tells you to do it again for a draught.....
Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5. And Simon answering saind unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing; nevertheless at thy work I will let down the net. (Luke 5:4-5 KJV)
