Mistakes - 12/8/09

Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotional - Tuesday, December 8, 2009

Praise the Lord and Good Evening,

Generally, I am in a position of asking questions.  Tonight, however, I was in the position of answering them.  It's different when you are the interviewee.  It was a blessing to experience it, don't get me wrong.  But it was new for me.  As I was attempting to answer the questions, I was acutely aware of time limitations, my mannerisms...at one point I was talking with my hands and accidently covered the mike.  I thought about it after the fact, but it was too late.....it was what it was.

I'm used to doing a recorded radio program.  In that scenario, if I mess up, there is always editing.  I was taught if I make an error, take a breath, and say it again.  The mistakes can be edited out.  Tonight, there was no editing going on.  Even though the program wasn't live, there was no going back and editing.  No way to fix the mistakes.....it is what it is....

But as I sat down tonight, I thought about this in reference to our lives....sometimes things happen and it seems like there is no way to fix the mistakes.  How many times have you said, "If I could only go back....." There are some people who may never forget that you made some mistakes (while they softly step over and/or down play their own)....... but Jesus showed time and again (my Aunt Net always said, "Time, behind time, behind time!) that He wipes the slate clean and gives us another chance to do "life" right.  That's what forgiveness of sins is all about.....clean slate, a do-over....a new day, new opportunity to do it right.

The adulterous woman was thrown into the spotlight because of what she'd done wrong.....and look at how Jesus handled that one.....talk about a nervous situation.  But when Jesus got done, she found out that was the best day of her life.....she was given a fresh start.  Chance to do some things differently.  Take two, if you will.  All of us have made mistakes....some mistakes were accidental and others were not mistakes...we knew what we were doing...but the results were the same....we longed to fix those wrongs....on a daily basis we're given opportunities to make things right....as Jesus told the woman, go, and sin no more.  Now that's an opportunity to take advantage of...

When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?  11) She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.  (John 8:10-11 KJV)

Matt 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
