Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotional - Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009
Praise the Lord and Good Evening,
"If He brings you to it, He'll bring you through it." That is the saying I have on my desk at work. I thought about this tonight as I pondered what to share in this devotional. Sometimes we'd rather not even be brought to some things. We look at loss, detours, down time, the inconveniences of life....He knew before this day started what was going to come....and while it may have caused us to go through some "changes" surely God knows better than you and I...and if He brings us to "it"....certainly, there is a road He has set to get us through it.
Joseph and Mary were in a very tough situation. I'm sure neither one of them expected to be in this situation! They hadn't done anything wrong to be there. So here they are: Joseph with the weight of "what to do" heavy on his mind and Mary with the weight of "how did this happen to me?" I'm sure you can relate to "What to do" moments. God sent the answer....calmed him down, told him not to take the alternate route....there was a way out. It didn't look like the most sensible route (from our perspective) but God brought them to "it" and got them through "it" by showing them His way....stay with this thing.
Divine design was all over "it" (yes, we understand that when it comes to the birth of Jesus) But it is also applicable to our lives and He's working with you, through you and yes, for you.......who doesn't come upon things in life that cause us to ponder? But again, if God brought you to the place....who more able than God to take you through the place....
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19) Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20) But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord apeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is cocneived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 1:18-20 KJV)
Then said Mary unot the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35) And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:34-35 KJV)
