Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotional - Friday, Dec. 11, 2009

Praise the Lord and Good Evening,

Well, I had it all mapped out.  I've worked a lot of overtime this week and tonight I had it all planned.  I was going to bed early and sleep long and hard.  I went to bed early, but just couldn't sleep.  I read a while, prayed a while and read some more, with the hopes of drifting into  a deep sleep.  It didn't happen.  Here I am, wide awake with all kinds of energy.  So, I have resorted to doing what my mother used to do when we were kids.  I'm doing chores.....right now I have a load of clothes in and once I'm done with this devotional, I have some other things lined up to take care of until I, either get done or get sleepy again.

I never could understand why my mother would wait until the middle of the night to do stuff.  On one memorable night, she had us washing walls!  We were soooo upset....we were washing walls in the wee hours of the morning.  For some reason that we never came to understand, they had to be done right then!  So now as I hear the washer churning away (and have several loads ready to go) at Midnight, I can only think back to those days and laugh.  Now here I am doing the same thing.....

If anyone would had told me when I left work that I'd be wide awake, doing things I'd planned for Saturday, I'd say, you're wrong.  You don't know like I know.  But sometimes we really don't know like we think we know.

And that leads me to tonight's devotional.  I'm still stuck on Joseph and Mary.  I suppose they had their life all mapped out....they were engaged, they'd done the right thing and their life was going to be splendid.  If anyone could have told them their plans would be severely altered, they probably would have said the same thing...you're wrong.  No way!  But look at how God changed their plans!

Maybe you've got your life all mapped out.....my mother used to say, "Life never goes as planned," and how right she was.  Talk about having questions and major concerns....remember the quote "Whatcha talkin bout Willis?"  That's how I feel sometimes with the Lord....what do you mean by this?  How can this be?  That's where Mary was....everything turned upside down....but God was in it, He was it!

So too with our lives....He is in it....He does for us the very same thing He did for Joseph and Mary...confirmed that it's okay and this is His doing.  Go with God on it....yes, it's strange, no, it's not what you had in mind, and it destroys what you thought you knew....

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.  19) Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. 20) But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord apeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 1:18-20 KJV)

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35) And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. (Luke 1:34-35 KJV)

Matt 11:28-29 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
