Rest For A Weary Soul Daily Devotional - Tuesday, February 9, 2010
Praise the Lord and Good Evening,
What a weekend we had last week......an uncle of mine passed away and many of my family traveled to Columbus, Ohio for the funeral. It was last Friday when the snow started falling...in Ohio and Pennsylvania. After the services, most of my family got back on the road to Pittsburgh.....and we headed to Dayton, Ohio. It was a 1 1/2 hour trip there or 3 hours to Pittsburgh (under normal circumstances)....we made it to Dayton in a little over 2 hours....the journey to Pittsburgh turned out to be much longer than 3 hours....and much more treacherous. My sister-in-law shared with me of some of the scores of accidents they witnessed and heard about.....it was too much to comprehend. I had nothing to compare it too...
In Ohio, there wasn't as much snow (15 inches) but the blowing winds proved to be quite a hindrance. We were house-bound until Sunday afternoon.....we were able to leave for home Monday morning.....we arrived in Pittsburgh around 3:30 and it was shocking to see the snow! At our house we had more than 24 inches and although our roads were plowed (a wall of snow in front of our driveway) it was still amazing to see sooo much snow....and it's snowing right now.....
All I can say tonight is "Thank you Jesus!" There's so many things that could have gone wrong.....yes, it was a funeral we attended, but God watched over us and kept us through this massive storm. Some relatives had to stay in hotels, others didn't make it to their homes right away, but they made it to a safe, warm, loving place.....and others, made it home, many hours after starting out....but I look at it and nothing but, "Thank You Jesus" comes....we could have easily lost loved ones during the trek back home....my husband and I missed work on Monday, but that's okay.....even on our journey home, we saw a couple accidents and not all of the roads were clear, however, we slowly and steadily made it back to Pittsburgh. The Lord blessed us to be able to climb through the 24 inches of snow to get to the house. We had water,power and a shovel (although, next year we'll have a snowblower!!)....Thank you Jesus!
